The conceptual-artistic-architectural concept of the planned Lithuanian Radio and Television (LRT) territory and object aims to balance the connection between the new building, which has a wide functional program, and the historical LRT building.
Building is positioned like a strip, deep in the plot, tactically retreating from the old building, and the building, raised at the intersection, extends the building.
The southwest corner is left free, emphasizing the importance of nature and existing greenery. The architectural idea emphasizes the existing context, the user and the environment.
Volumes of the building are placed like blocks on a transparent base, which allows the integration of the building with the existing trees. Inner courtyards with greenery and recreational courtyards with different characteristics reflect the different needs of the departments.
The courtyard of LTN becomes a small park for the recreation of employees, the possibility of watching outdoor cinema is provided in the courtyard of the Television Department, and the courtyard of the Radio Department becomes an eye looking into the public space.
Laconic appearance of the building hides the internal diversity, which reflects the needs of users for work and recreation. The structure of the building allows for the creation of different stories and activities, supporting an ever-changing work environment.
The administration terrace on the roof provides an opportunity to observe the historic and the new LRT building, as well as the public space where the past, present and future merge. The new LRT headquarters becomes not only a functional building, but also
a mysterious thing that hides countless stories and future prospects.
